1962 Land Rover Series II 88 | Full Restoration

Chassis & Undercarriage
The restoration began with the vehicle completely disassembled down to its chassis.
The original chassis was stripped bare, sandblasted and acid-dipped to remove decades of corrosion and contamination before being refinished with a durable static paint coating designed to provide long-term protection.
Structural components, mounting points and associated hardware were inspected and restored as part of the process.
The bonnet was hand-rebuilt in aluminum, maintaining the traditional construction and unmistakable appearance of the early Land Rover Series II.
Original 2.25L Petrol Engine & Drivetrain
At the heart of this 1962 Land Rover Series II 88 remains its original 2.25-liter petrol engine.
Rather than simply servicing the existing engine, it was completely disassembled and rebuilt back to factory specification. The cylinders were bored, new sleeves were installed, the camshaft was replaced and the majority of the engine’s internal components were renewed.
The original gearbox was likewise completely overhauled. Its aluminum housing received a specialized firearm-grade nickel-plating treatment, providing additional surface protection and a distinctive finish while preserving the vehicle’s original transmission.
Both front and rear differentials were rebuilt, while the braking system underwent a complete overhaul.
The fuel and cooling systems were also renewed with a new fuel tank, new radiator and Britpart carburetor, giving the rebuilt drivetrain fresh supporting components throughout.
Complete Electrical Restoration
The aging electrical system was removed and replaced with a complete new wiring system from front to rear.
Rather than repairing individual sections of decades-old wiring, the electrical system was comprehensively renewed to provide greater reliability while maintaining the straightforward mechanical character expected from a classic Land Rover.
All-New Bodywork
The body was reconstructed as part of the ground-up restoration with no reused body panels.
All steel body panels were newly produced, while the aluminum components were fabricated in-house using the original Land Rover measurements and geometry.
Particular attention was given to panel alignment, mounting points, proportions and body gaps to retain the distinctive shape of the original 88-inch short-wheelbase Land Rover Series II.
The complete body then underwent an extensive multi-stage preparation and refinishing process.
A three-stage finishing system was used, incorporating epoxy primer, color and an acrylic finishing layer to provide both protection and a high-quality final appearance.
Handcrafted Interior
The interior was completely reconstructed while maintaining the simple and functional character that made the early Series Land Rover famous.
The Series II received new seating and leather upholstery, along with new gauges and a new steering wheel.
The rear cargo area was finished in handcrafted teak, introducing a carefully executed detail that complements the otherwise utilitarian nature of the original vehicle.
A Ground-Up Land Rover Series II Restoration
This was not a cosmetic refurbishment.
The vehicle was disassembled and rebuilt as a complete system, with the original engine and gearbox retained and comprehensively restored while virtually every surrounding system was renewed, rebuilt or refinished.
